“When people ask what’s driven me all these years,
I always give the same answer.
It’s you.”
- Arnold Palmer
I met Arnie at Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Oregon, in 2003 or 2004. I checked in the clubhouse, which at the time was a doublewide as the course was still under development. The young man at the desk told me Arnold Palmer and his party were teeing off before me. At first, I didn't beliieve him, then he showed me Arnie's name in the appointment book. Well, just then Arnie walks in and says hello to the young man. All the time I was thinking how do I introduce myself to Arnie. Being a Mason, and knowing that Arnie is a Mason, I will say,
can I shake the hand of a fellow Mason. Arnie immediately shook my hand and ask what lodge I was a member of. He ask if I was playing golf. I said I was playing after his group. I remarked that I was glad I was I playing behind his group. He laughed, put his hand on my shoulder and said, go out there and have fun. See
you in Heaven Arnie. Roger Brown
